Adding Links to Directories…

While surfing the mommysphere (mommy blogs), I came across a post that got me wondering. This article talked about adding your link(s) to web directories. It gave some good advice, and there was some stuff I didn’t know about that really helped…

I don’t know I’m fine with how the script is written and displays stuff. :) If other’s complain, well, they can find a different directory to submit too.

You know, I only just saw this post.. crazy crazy.

I assume you’re referring to NinjaLinks when you say you’re using one of my scripts – in which case, it uses php header() to force a redirect which Google is fine with (and will rank). If you wanted to be absolutely sure, you could change this part in click.php:

header(“Location: “.$link['linkurl']);

to:

header(“Status: 301″);
header(“Location: “.$link['linkurl']);

to force a 301 redirect, which is even better.

Anybody who says that directories that using ‘http://www.yourlisting.com/click.php?linkname’ instead of a straight link without actually knowing anything about the directory, is talking out of their ass!

If you’re only worried about link juice, then any link that doesn’t have your domain in the target URL will not pack much pop. That said, links are more about traffic, not rankings, so don’t miss out on a good traffic stream because you don’t like the way your link might be coded

Direct links pass authority to your website which help you rank better in the search engines (also more traffic) and the “redirected” links will give you only traffic.

I don’t like redirected links at all because they don’t show up in my referrals (in the statistics).

Ugh, I am so sick of hearing about pageranks, Alexa, and popularity. So stupid. STUPID! I hate this whole popularity thing and I just want it to stop.

Traffic is traffic, like Jennge said.

I agree that people are too worried about PR, Alexa, and link popularity For me, it’s more about getting the right people to find my site. The type of of people who not only read the posts and write comments, but the people who actually contribute content and participate.

I totally agree. Traffic is traffic. I am just glad someone came to the site. I’m not sure what the big deal is with how they get there. :)
