I was reading another blog I had come across earlier this morning. One post caught my eye right off. It was about how books are better then movies. Definitely intriguing.
I have to agree. I personally barely ever watch television anymore. There is never anything worth watching on (other then the occasional horror movie or documentary). So sometimes if I can pry myself away from WoW or the internet altogether, I pick up a book to read.
And for the record, I like actual books. I could never own one of those retarded Nook‘s or Kindle‘s. Ugh.
Anyway, I have a lot of movie books. Like Star Wars
(definitely better then the movies), I have one called The Final Cut
. That one was TOTALLY better then the movie. I literally finished it less then a day. Right now I’m reading a take on Alice in Wonderland. I will tell you the version I’m reading is so much better then the one we’ve heard a million times. And it’s definitely better then the movie Tim Burton made (and I have that book too).
But reading movies (or television shows eg. Trueblood) is a lot better then seeing it on the t.v. The books tend to explain more and give you a better perspective of what is going on, which in turn makes it better for us to understand. Unless it’s one of those movies/books that confuses the fuck out of us either way. I hate those.
So that’s my take on the subject, but like Levar Burton says, you don’t have to take my word for it!
I’ll see ya next time!
*hums reading rainbow song*

I love movies and everything, but it is no argument. Books are WAY BETTER. You get to imagine everything, and that’s better than anything a director could depict. In my opinion anyway….
thank you so very much for stopping by my blog and helping make my SITS day special! I recently read “Memoirs of a Geisha” and its a zillion times better than the movie (and my husband reports the same thing about “Shutter Island”)
Just wanted to thank you for visiting me on my SITS day and leaving some blog love!
Blessings,
LMM
Well now I can see your site. Maybe it’s just at work. Anyways I’m not a big book fan. The books are usually better, but I don’t have the patience to read.
I totally agree with you, books are way better than movies!!! Movies leave out many important details from the books.
I like to see the movies then read the books! lol Reading Rainbow!!!
Yes, Books are better than movies because people who love reading their favorite books are frequently disappointed by the movie. For me reading books is more enjoyable then watching a movie . :)
I love reading the books rather than watching a movie, though there are quite several times that i used to go for a movie but am disappointed for one or the other reason, Instead sitting in a room and reading a book makes me really happy. :)
hi Jenny,
thanks for coming by my blog and leaving such a kind comment.
your blog is very cute too!!
i think when they make a movie out of a book, they’re competing against our imagination there. and thats just too difficult. so often, like you said the book is way better than the movie/tv show.
=)
I agree. Books are better! And it should be real books!
I love to watch movies…but I agree that books are better than movies…
At least for me…I can slowly read at my own pace & enjoy the story…rather than in the movies when everything is ‘molded’ to fit into the 2 or 3 hrs…
Books are definitely better than movies because you get to imagine everything yourself instead of being force-fed someone else’s view on a character or a place. I don’t read books, but then again I don’t watch movies either — it’s video games and comics for me, baby.
I like reading way better too, but I don’t really like to read things like movie books.
Being a writer I’m totally biased when I say books are better
I actually love seeing books being made into films/TV shows. I never expect them to be totally the same and usually am not that too disappointed. But the least said about “The Other Boleyn Girl” movie the better…
I got the Kindle for BlackBerry app and I have to admit that it comes in handy for night time reading.
As for books versus movies, I’d rather the movie…even though it’s not exactly like the book.
Couldn’t agree more! I feel like such an elitist cow when I say those sorts of things to people (for instance, the main squeeze and I just saw Shutter Island, and we had read it a dozen times before) and I keep saying “Oh, it was alright, but the book was SO much better”. I say that at least once a week.
I also could never own a kindle (hadn’t heard of the nook), it takes the fun out of reading a book! What I love most about reading is the smell of the pages and the feel of turning them. It’s like an accomplishment every two minutes or so.
Stopping by from SITS!
Movies and books are two completely different forms of media and entertainment, in my opinion. However, if a movie is made from a book, the book is definitely going to contain a lot more details and allows for the reader to fabricate their own vivid imagination that is far more vast than anything that could ever be put on a movie screen, in my opinion. That being said, movies are a great form of entertainment and there have been some fantastic stories developed especially for the big screen. To me, they are completely separate.
Books are sooo much better than movies… if for nothing else you can be creative in your mind with how you see each character… their environment… their lives. I think it’s so much more fulfilling.
Blessings.
It’s true that most of the time the book is better.
Only time I remember the show being better than the book was when it came to Dexter =3
I agree, the books usually are better than the movie version. The only instance I can think of where I liked the movie better was with Shawshank Redemption. Maybe it’s because it was a short story. You would think Stephen King’s version would have been better than a screenplay, but it’s hard to top Morgan Freeman.
Thanks for stopping by the Cellulite Investigation!
OMG, books RULE! A movie can never match what is in my own imagination as I read the words and that is THE reason why I will never watch the movie To Kill a Mockingbird … no movie will ever come close to how I picture all the characters in my own mind.
I had to watch that movie. I wanted to hang myself about 20 min into it. I was so bored…
Books are definitely better than the movie…they put so much more detail and vivid imagery than a movie can cover in just 2 hours.
Yeah, I also believe that books are far than movies as the movie has limits and our imagination doesn’t… Most of the movies that’s been derived from the books doesn’t always get the best reviews as people expect more. They would want to see how they see it when they’re reading the book.
totally agree and in fact, I blogged about it yesterday. I read Lovely Bones and then saw the movie. the movie was HORRIBLE.
Hi Stopping by from SITS.
Books do have so much more detail than the movies since they can’t possibly fit it all in in the couple or so hours of a movie. So for that purpose i agree books are in that way better than movies. But movies are better in seeing everything in action, color and with music. The special effects department do way better job than my overworked mind – in my house its hard not to have to read the same paragraph twice (or more) because of all the interruptions.
have a great weekend.
Hi!
Though i agree with you but there are movies like “JURASSIC PARK” which made live experience of dinosaurs for kids and even elders which is not possible through a book :)
