Ok. I have to put my two cents in on this one. Let me just say, I’m not one to be mean, or put people down. (Well, I can’t say that, I do from time to time depending on the situation.) And I’m sure this was well intentioned when the creator thought it up, but Tummy Tubs are…well, to put it bluntly…a tub of doom.
I first saw this product on Baby Blog Addict, and I just sat here going, “…ok”. So I went to the site to check it out, and what do I see? Babies stuffed into buckets filled with water. Now, it might just be me, but two things here. One, I can go to Target and buy a bucket to bathe my child in (which will never happen). For a low ass price for that matter. Seriously, who would spend $50.00 on this. $50 for a fucking bucket. You people must have a lot of money to throw out and around if you’re buying this thing. How about sending the money to people who need food in their tummy’s or clothes on their backs! Better way to waste your green, eh?
And two, how easy would it be for an infant in this “tub”, filled with water almost up to it’s neck for crying out loud (look at the picture rotation on the front page), to drown!?! Yea, yea, I know you gotta watch your baby closely when cleaning it, but you look away for only a second to reach for soap, even let go of the poor thing to do whatever, and the worst thing could happen. It’s like that woman on that “find the next inventor” show who put kids in plastic bubbles to keep them from fighting…seriously people. Get a clue. This is the most insane thing I’ve seen anyone sell. Especially a mother!! Not to mention some of those babies look extremely unhappy about being in the frigging thing. But I will give it kudos for other, more safer, products, like nifty towels and bath products (soap, lotion, etc.). Other then that…it’s a no sale for me.
Honestly though, what mother would subject a baby to this? It’s cruel. But like I said, this could all just be me…

Hi! I’m visiting you back! I loved your comment on my blog and I have to say I love yours too… it’s a really complete website.
Excelent work!

Tummy Tubs (Genius or …?)…

It’s an interesting concept…I like the idea on its merits but it weirds me out at the same time. And $50? Too rich for my blood.
You asked for feedback. Here it goes. That is just freaking nuts! No I do not have any young children at home. But the sheer thought of bailing a baby in nothing more than a glorified mop bucket is so horrifying. I can’t believe that anyone condones ths as a safe pracitce.
Yeah I have to agree with you…the concept just seems wierd. When I saw the pic of the 2 babies stuffed into one bucket, not only do they both look uncomfortable, how can a mother even make sure she gets each baby completely cleaned when they’re stuffed in there so tightly?? And the site says the buckets are so popular that they’re on backorder?? I cannot imagine paying $50 for one of those…it looks like an accident in the making. I’ll bet that we’ll be seeing a recall notice on this product soon, sadly enough.
Thanks for visiting my blog!!!
I remember it being all the rage back when I had my first son in 2005. To be honest, I would never fork out for one, but I do know some other mums who used it, and apparently it was great for the tiny newborns. Much less likely to cry in it etc than in their regular bath and so on.
Still would never pay the $50 for it though!
I burst out laughing at the site of the baby stuffed in the clear bucket,,, although my sis argued that its supposed to emulate the womb! It doesn’t look like a very easy way to wash the baby when he’s up to his chin in a bucket of water with all of his arms and legs folded up!
Thanks for visiting my blog! I’ll be back to visit you more!

Hi there.
I’m just stopping by to see hour your comment challenge is going.
Have a great week!
ROTF, I’m not sure what’s worse the tub thingy or the stool they sell to put the tub on. Guess I missed this one seeing we are over in Japan and I thought they had some pretty insain things here, this just beats all. What ever happen to putting a towel in the tub running about an inch of water and washing your baby that way?????
At first I thought it was interesting, something that emulates the womb. But $50? No thanks. My kids love being in the water, and I’ve never had any issues giving them baths in a regular old bathtub.
Reminds me of Bonzai Kitties. Remember those?
Wow. I can only say. Wow! Nicely done. I’m making a guide myself on baby baths. Do you mind if I use this information?
I guess…
I get the idea, that they can’t really move so they can’t drown. It would be a little awkward to wash the baby though, how can you rub the soap on their body when it’s underwater? Also like you said, $50 for a BUCKET? I get that it’s the right size for a baby but that one picture showed a whole bunch of babies in buckets, it also showed on toddler and one fat baby. They can’t all fit in the same size bucket a comfortable way. I’ll pass.
I have never heard of them. I have to agree they look pretty scary. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Have a great week!
Wow, I feel like I’m in bizarroland … I’ve never seen that before! I was going to write more but I’m sorta speechless here! lol
So how are you doing with your comment challenge?
I actually think that looks drown proof. If the baby can’t move they can’t drown. But it does look like a pain to be able to wash the baby inside and I certainly wouldn’t ever think of getting one. Even if it wasn’t an unbelievable $50 bucks.
Thanks for stopping by!
This post cracked me up. I’ve seen those, and thought they looked a little odd. You nailed it though…basically a mop bucket.
I have not bought one either but something must be good about it you can not get them anywhere rigth now! They are backordered til mid June. I would consider buying one though, my kids hated not being covered all the way up by the water bath times were miserable at my house for a while!
