Creating Kimmy

August 31st, 2010

Everyone creates a character for themselves every now and then, be it for a book, a piece of art, or in my case, a doll (that I haven’t even bought yet!) And I’ve begun to realize just how much work goes in to creating that character, because I want her to somehow reflect me as the owner but I want her to be her own person all at the same time. You know what I mean? If you’ve ever had to do this, I’m sure you do.

In the past it wasn’t all that hard, mainly because the character(s) (Lissy & Charlie) were somewhat based and created for me when I chose them in their default forms. All I had to do was name them and modify them a bit to my liking and there I was. My own characters alive (so to speak) in front of me. This is not so with my Kimmy. Let me show you.

This is Kimmy (in photo the right) in her default form and stock photo. She’s cute, no? And she seems the perfect girl, right? Wrong. Let me explain why. Although I do like her outfit, hairstyle, and all of her, she is just way to cute for her own good (although her shoes are stellar and I want them badly). She’s also way to pink. I like pink but, uh, no. So I’ll be getting this doll naked and without hair, that way I can start from (semi)-scratch and make her my own. I’ve spent the better part of a week trying to window shop my way to a truly personalized girl. Yes, insane, I know. And so far, all I have found is a wig that would look cute on her and head me in a somewhat right direction in how I want her to be.

Personality, I’ve got. She’s 14 (cause of her childish look). Anything older would feel wrong to me. She’s cute yet punky. She likes music (getting her headphones :3 ) and video games. And she’s a junkfood junkie and loves to go to school (why I have no idea).

Clothes, I’m a bit stuck on. I can’t find anything I like. I’ma have to start shopping outside of ebay. It sucks that all the good stuff is made for dolls bigger then her. U_U

And backstory, well, frack me, I’m not even gonna bother with that one. x.x Maybe someday when I’m feeling overly creative once more.

So as you can see I’ve got a lot of planning to do, as well as research on how to care for her (’cause she’s to fragile to just toss around and do whatever willy nilly), and most of all get a blog up for her and learn how to take better photos with my camera xD I’m a photo whore and a sucker for still life. Plus you’ll never see my kids up on this site ’cause I’m severely paranoid about who’s out there and all looking at my youngin’s.

Like my mom says, I (might) need a life. But for now, I like things how they are. It makes me happy and keeps me occupied. I’m not quite ready for the funny farm just yet. x3

All about my desk

So my desk. I love my desk. It’s actually brand new and clean and white. So pretty I also slapped some Hello Kitty wall decals on it to make it look cute and stuff since, well, they didn’t have a Hello Kitty desk and I’m super creative like that. But in the past couple of ... read more »

My small holiday

This past weekend I spent a few days at my grandmother’s house in MA. I wanted to visit as well as check out a doll show that was going on up the street from her house (which I’m kinda sorry about). The visit was awesome and I got to relax without the men of the ... read more »
